Frequently asked questions
- What's the difference between Precise and Fast?
- Precise re-encodes the clip so it starts and ends exactly where you set. Fast copies the video without re-encoding, which is quicker and lossless, but can only cut at keyframes, so the start may be a little earlier than requested.
- How do I enter a time?
- Use seconds (90) or minutes and seconds (1:30). Leave End blank to keep everything to the end of the video.
- How large a video can I use?
- Up to 300 MB. The video is processed in your browser's memory, so very long or very large files can run out of it. For those, the free VideoKit mobile app processes videos natively on your phone.
- Is my video uploaded anywhere?
- No. FFmpeg runs inside your browser tab as WebAssembly, so the video never leaves your device. The first run downloads the video engine (about 30 MB) from this site once and reuses it afterwards.
