Frequently asked questions
- Why is WebM conversion slow?
- VP8 encoding is heavy for a browser. For long clips, MP4 is much faster.
- Can I convert to GIF or MP3?
- Yes — use the Video to GIF and Video to MP3 tools, which have settings made for those formats.
- How large a video can I use?
- Up to 300 MB. The video is processed in your browser's memory, so very long or very large files can run out of it. For those, the free VideoKit mobile app processes videos natively on your phone.
- Is my video uploaded anywhere?
- No. FFmpeg runs inside your browser tab as WebAssembly, so the video never leaves your device. The first run downloads the video engine (about 30 MB) from this site once and reuses it afterwards.
