TopScanner — Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and the publisher of the TopScanner mobile app (“the app”, “we”, “us”), who also operates AMPDF. By downloading, installing or using the app you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. If you use the app on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you may bind that organisation.

1. Licence

We grant you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own personal or internal business use, in line with these Terms and the rules of the app store you obtained it from. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.

2. You may not

• •copy, sell, rent, sub-licence or redistribute the app;
• •reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, or attempt to derive its source code, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
• •remove or alter any proprietary notices, or circumvent App Lock, the Secure Vault or any security or licensing mechanism;
• •use the app to build a competing product, or to scan, store or distribute material you have no right to, or that is unlawful, infringing, or violates someone’s privacy;
• •interfere with the app’s operation, its advertising, or the networks it relies on, or use it in any way that breaches applicable law or a third party’s rights.

3. Your content

“Your content” means the documents, images, scans, recognised text and other material you create or import in the app. You keep all rights to your content. It is created, processed and stored on your device; we do not receive it, claim any licence to it, or use it for any purpose. You are solely responsible for your content, for having the right to scan and keep it, and for complying with any laws that apply to it (for example around identity documents, medical or financial records, or other people’s personal data).

Keep your own backups. Because everything is on-device, uninstalling the app, clearing its data, using “Delete all data”, or losing or resetting your device will permanently remove your content. We cannot recover it.

4. Advertising

The app is free and supported by ads served through Google AdMob. By using the app you agree it may display ads as described in the Privacy Policy. You must not click ads fraudulently, block or tamper with ad delivery, or use the app in a way designed to generate invalid ad activity. We may change ad formats, frequency or partners, or offer an ad-free option, at any time.

5. Optional AI feature — “Ask Document”

The app includes an optional assistant that is disabled by default. If you enable it you must provide your own API key for a third-party AI provider (Anthropic), and your use of that provider is governed by its own terms. When you send a request, document text and your question are sent from your device to the provider to generate a response.

• •You are responsible for your API key, for any charges the provider bills you, and for your use of the responses.
• •AI responses may be inaccurate, incomplete or misleading. They are not legal, financial, medical or other professional advice. Verify anything important.
• •Do not submit content you are not permitted to share with the provider. We are not responsible for the provider’s service, availability or handling of your data.

6. Marked-unavailable features

Some capabilities are shown in the app as unavailable because they require a component that is not present in the current build. We make no promise that any such feature, or any future feature, will be added.

7. App stores

You also agree to the terms of the store you obtained the app from (Google Play or the Apple App Store). Where you obtained the app from the Apple App Store: these Terms are between you and us, not Apple; Apple has no obligation to provide support or handle claims relating to the app; and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. To the extent these Terms are less restrictive than, or conflict with, Apple’s standard licensed-application end-user licence agreement for consumer content, that Apple agreement applies to your use of the app on Apple devices.

8. Intellectual property

The app, its software, design, and the “TopScanner” and AMPDF names and logos are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms give you no rights in them beyond the licence in section 1.

9. Disclaimers

The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that scanning, enhancement, OCR, PDF generation or field extraction will be accurate or complete, or that the app will meet your requirements. You are responsible for checking that any output is fit for your purpose before you rely on it.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, documents, profits, revenue or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the app — even if we have been advised of the possibility. Our total liability for all claims relating to the app will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the 12 months before the claim (which for a free app is zero) or USD 20. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, and some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the app in breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

12. Termination

You may end this agreement at any time by uninstalling the app. We may suspend or end your licence if you materially breach these Terms or use the app in a way that harms other users, our partners or us. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (for example sections 3, 8, 9, 10 and 11) will survive.

13. Changes

We may update the app and these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes to the Terms we will update this page and its dates and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the publisher is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live. Before bringing a formal claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve the matter informally.
